Angel lasted for five glorious years - half a decade of action, razor-sharp comedy and heart-breaking tragedy - before sadly being cancelled. We at SCI FI have got every last second, and we're giving you all the chance to join the adventure alongside us.
A vampire is a pretty cool character already. When you make him a particularly brutal vampire, hundreds of years old, who carved a bloody swathe throughout the world until a gypsy curse restored his soul and nearly crippled him with the weight of all that guilt - well, that's dynamite. Throw in a drop dead (ha!) gorgeous actress wannabe with a lot of growing up to do, a slovenly Irish half-demon, a rather awkward English demon hunter and a streetwise, no-nonsense 'old school' vampire hunter, and you've got quite a crew. And that's just season one, folks.
Also, please note that every episode of Angel is both subtitled and audio described.
Angel (David Boreanaz)
David Boreanaz, a surprisingly goofy fella in real life, plays Angel, the tortured vampire with a soul. Driven by a powerful sense of guilt and desire to see justice done, he helps the helpless, ably assisted by his eclectic crew...
Choice quote: "There are three things I don't do: tan, date and sing in public."
Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter)
The gorgeous Cordelia, like Angel himself, is transplanted wholesale from Buffy into the dark heart of LA. Vain, shallow, bitchy, she soon realises that there are more important things in life than matching your shoes and handbag. Well, soon-ish.
Choice quote: "Are you troubled? Or is that your lazy eye? Anyway, call us, we are very discreet."
Wesley Wyndam-Pryce (Alexis Denisof)
Another character who originally sprang to life on Buffy, Wesley is a Watcher-turned-demonslayer, and rather less suave and dangerous than he might appear at first. Bless his cotton socks.
Choice quote: "I once used that very spear to pin down what I thought was a small Rodentius demon. Of course, the poodle's owners weren't very happy."
Charles Gunn (J August Richards)
Bringing a little harsh, urban reality to the crew is Gunn. A vampire slayer without the fancy powers, he cruises around with his loyal gang, using good old-fashioned homemade weaponry to fight back the darkness. Then he meets Angel, and nothing will ever be the same again.
Choice quote: "If he pops a fang in here, thwack him where it hurts."
Doyle (Glenn Quinn)
A lover, not a fighter, and sadly not a particularly successful lover at that, Doyle nevertheless has at least one crucial gift - visions of the future. He sees trouble before it arrives, allowing Angel to leap into action. The splitting headaches the visions cause are just a bonus. (Season 1 only)
Choice quote: "Have you looked in the mirror lately? No, I guess you really haven't, no."
Lorne (Andy Hallett)
A flamboyant, acid-tongued nightclub host and - of course - demon, Lorne has the unique ability to read your future from... karaoke performances. Well, it's tidier than mumbling over bloody chicken entrails, that's for sure. (Series 2 onwards)
Choice quote: "This is way beyond my Ken... and my Barbie and all my action figures"
Winifred "Fred" Burkle (Amy Acker)
Sweet, naive, waif-like, and a mathematician and physicist of singular genius, Fred was first found by the team as a slave in Lorne's home dimension, but soon settled into the Angel Investigations team. Gunn and Wesley both find themselves rather taken by her, to say the least. (Series 2 onwards)
Choice quote: "We stopped 'a nefarious plan for global domination' not 'world peace,' right?"
