Founded by Actor Cecil Roper aka Valiant Harry in 1957 The Legion Of Fire:Croydon Branch is Britain's first, and now last remaining superhero club. We are a club for residents of Croydon (and surrounding areas Tatsfield, New Addington, Biggin Hill, not as far as Oxted). Our members create their very own superhero's and perform civic duties for the good of our local community.
We are proud to report that our recent projects/adventures have included, Super OAP Casino Night at the Fairview retirement home in Glebe Way (Wed from 3.30pm, 2 if non resident, includes chicken kiev). Super Face Painting with the Unemployed at Dingwall Road Job Club, and we continue to support the Saturday morning litter pick between the Croydon Flyover and Lower Coombe Street.
Come Join Us! To the ends of Time ...
Valiant Harry (Cecil Roper)
Founder of the Legion Valiant Harry had a vision for Croydon, and what a vision, it involved good deeds and capes. Still going strong 50 years in. Huzzah!
Mr. Spectacular (Ian Roper)
Having served the Legion since 1956, Mr Spectacular is still coming, wow what a member! He only briefly stopped coming in 1984, but still comes every Thursday without fail. Recent Adventures have included driving the infirm to hospital, and tree surgery (reduced rate) just off Eden Road.
Flex (Brian Ryan)
Our brother Flex is electric man! We at the Legion think he is wicked and we are down with his sparky super skills. Despite being an EOSO (equal opportunities superheros organisation), he is currently our only black member.
Deadly Nightshade (Duncan Drakes)
Deadly makes the 8 hour round trip to Croydon from Perthshire in Scotland to attend our club. What a commitment! If only we had more like him. Recent good deeds include, helping a person less fortunate than himself to buy a hotdog in IKEA, and playing whist with the friends of Enid Bagnott in Warhurst Close.
Major Kaboodle (Unknown)
The Major has attended our club since 1977, and has brought his 4 kids to the club over the years. Little is known about his true identity, we don't even know where he lives (accepts no lifts home). Recent Adventures have included the Wandle Park Fun Day.
Snakebite (Paul Patch)
ssssssssssssssssSnakebite, our newest and most attractive female member. Recent adventures have included the sponsored wild goose hunt (6th place) and raising over £32 for a goose-based charity in Biggin Hill. Well done sssssssSnakey!
Moonbeam (Arlo French)
Moonbeam is our resident brainbox finishing 17th in the Surrey Pub Quiz competition, as the only member of his team that's quite a super achievement. Well done Sunshine or should we say Moonbeam! Ha! He kindly donated his winnings to the Norwegian children In need fund.
